Join the Dexter Area Fire Department – Immediate Openings for Full-Time Firefighters

The Dexter Area Fire Department (DAFD) is excited to announce immediate openings for four full-time firefighter positions. Applications will be accepted from Thursday, January 16, 2025, to Sunday, February 16, 2025. This hiring process will create an eligibility list for the next year, providing an opportunity to join our dynamic and high-performing team that is dedicated to serving the community.

We are seeking motivated, community-oriented individuals who are passionate about the fire service and committed to delivering the highest quality of protection to the citizens we serve. As a firefighter with DAFD, you will play a crucial role in our mission to safeguard life, property, and the well-being of those in our community.

Firefighters are responsible for a range of duties including:

  • Firefighting and Emergency Response: Protecting life and property by responding to emergencies such as fires, accidents, and medical calls.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operating and maintaining fire apparatus and equipment, ensuring everything is in top working condition.
  • Education and Fire Prevention: Participating in public training classes, fire prevention programs, and community outreach efforts.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Assisting in various department tasks as needed to maintain preparedness and provide the best service to the community.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license, in good standing
  • Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council Fire Fighter I/II certification
  • EMT-B or higher License recognized in the State of Michigan
  • Hazardous Materials Operations Level Training certification
  • Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council Drivers Training Certification
  • Written exam through EMPCO* with a 70% or above
  • Prior to being hired, candidate must pass and complete a Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) or BPAT, physical exam, drug, psychological and respirator fit tests and extensive background check

*All applicants must create an EMPCO profile and then register and take the written exam to be administered by Empco, Inc. Go to Empco’s website at https://client.empco.net/ to register for the written exam and pay the exam fee. Applicants must complete the online profile and have a current score as of Friday, February 14, 2025. Test scores with Empco are active for one year. Questions regarding the written exam should be directed to EMPCO at empco.net
